Wiring your STENG cluster together

The DMCFG includes these two variables for each deployed STENG node:

  • SPENG_PEER_ID: unique peer name of this STENG Peer
  • SPENG_CLUSTER_ID: unique cluster name to which this STENG Peer node belongs

This identification information is automatically propagated to the STENG bootstrap configuration on each target node, but when the system is started for the first time the logical cluster emerging from those settings is not defined in the Data One configuration database... So you need to manually wire your cluster together as indicated in this section.

A complete description of all configuration parameters for STENG Clusters and STENG Peers can be found in Adding a cluster and a STENG.
In this section we concentrate on the basic wiring of the STENG Cluster, as additional tuning can be applied at any time.

Adding a STENG Cluster

Navigate to Setup > STENG, Clusters and Servers and click Add Cluster. Enter the SPENG_CLUSTER_ID variable value as Cluster Name - note that 500 is the Maximum Job Number - and click the CREATE button.

Adding STENG Peers

For each STENG Peer deployed at installation time, navigate to Setup > STENG, Clusters and Servers and click on Add STENG on the previously created STENG Cluster.

You will be presented with a form with several configuration parameters, but you can accept all defaults and just enter the value of SPENG_PEER_ID variable as STENG Name before clicking the SAVE button.

Restarting STENG Peers

Each STENG Peer must be stopped and restarted to pick up the new configuration.

Once you completed this task for each STENG Peer, your cluster is ready to be used!
