Configuring a VFS

Clicking the VFS name in the result list, the Virtual File System details page will appear.

If you have just created your VFS, the page will be empty except for the info on the VFS at the top.

This bar contains the VFS Name and Description, the Partner, Retention class, and Storage class assigned. Moreover, the ACL padlock icon shows if access to the VFS or Virtual Path is open to all users and groups (the padlock is open) or not (the padlock is closed) and specific permissions are granted to users and/or groups.

If you need to edit the VFS Description or select a different Storage or Retention Class, Partner or Group, you can click the icon on the right. The ACL setting cannot be modified at this stage. It's too late.

Configuring Users and Groups accessing the VFS

If you set the "Enable ACL" toggle switch to ON when creating the VFS, you now have to add the Users or Groups that will have access the VFS.

Follow these steps:

1. In the VFS you are viewing, click the USER chip to select Users that will have access to the VFS or GROUP to select the Group of Users that will have access. If you do not see the chips, the padlock is open, ACLs are unmanaged and the VFS is accessible to all users and groups.

2. A window will appear allowing you to select who can access the VFS and/or the virtual path. Two sections are available: a. Users (or Groups) assigned to the Actor: in this section, you can assign External Users or Groups. b. Internal Users (or Groups): in this ta,b you can assign Internal Users or Groups.

3. Click the drop-down menu, and select the User (or Group) you want to access the VFS.

4. The User (or Group) will be assigned to the VFS and access permissions can be configured by checking the box relevant to each option:

1. When done, click SAVE to confirm.

Each permission allows users to perform specific actions:

LISTING	Check the contents of the virtual path
CREATE	Create files in the virtual path
DELETE	Delete files from the virtual path
DOWNLOAD	Download files from the virtual path
RENAME	Rename files in the virtual path
UPLOAD	Upload files to the virtual path

After configuring the ACL on VFS, the number of authorized users or groups is shown.

As already said, when creating a child folder, its ACL properties will be inherited from the parent folder. In other words, all permissions configured for the parent folder will be automatically applied to children folders.
