Rules
In Data Mover Smart, Rules are automated instructions that dictate specific actions to be executed on files that arrive in a designated folder of a Virtual File System (VFS). These rules help streamline file-handling processes, improving workflow efficiency by automatically executing predefined actions.
Rules can include a variety of actions, such as adding metadata, converting the file, copying it to a VFS, deleting the file, and executing a script once they are received.
To create a Rule, click the New button on the lower right corner and fill in these fields:
General Information: assign a name to the Rule you are creating and optionally enter a description to ensure clarity and organization among multiple rules.
Listening folder (VFS): select or create a folder within the VFS where files will be monitored by the rule. To create a new folder, click the + button in the lower right corner of the window.
Trigger: Rules can be activated by the arrival of a new file or scheduled via cron expressions to operate at specific times or intervals.
New file: select this option if you want the rule to be applied when a new file arrives in the folder.
Schedule: set a cron expression to define the seconds, minutes, hours, days and months when the rule must be executed. You can also enter the cron expression directly in the field at the bottom of the box - the one with the grey background.
Condition attributes: click the + button and select or create an Attribute, i.e., criteria that must be met for the rule to apply, such as specific file characteristics like size, name, or origin.
Actions: select the task to be executed once the condition attribute is met.
When done, click the Save button. The Rule will be added to the list.
Click the 3-dot icon to access these options:
Edit: change any options set in the Rule.
Clone: clone the Rule. The Rule can be cloned totally (all options) or partially (only some of them)
Listening folder: this menu will open the Folders page, where you can select an existing folder or create a new one.
Disable: disable the Rule so that it remains configured but not operative.
Delete: delete the Rule.
When configuring the Rule, a panel on the left of the screen allows you to:
enable or disable the Rule
add tags to the Rule
clone the Rule
delete the Rule
